About Us

Background

In 2000, democrats were unprepared for voter suppression and for the legal battle that was necessary to defend the rights of Florida’s voters.  In 2004, Lawyers for Kerry-Edwards mobilized a team of thousands of lawyers that traveled to swing-states in order to protect voting rights.  Although we were able to stop many incidents of voter suppression, the fact remains that there were significant problems in certain states.  Too many voters (especially minority voters) were forced to wait in long lines to cast votes; too many voters had to deal with broken machines, confusion at polling places, and other “problems” that made voting inordinately difficult; there were too many incidents of voter intimidation.  In 2008, we will learn from the lessons of past campaigns; we will do a better job then we did in 2004, and we hope to ensure that every vote is counted – or, at the very least, that voter suppression plays no role in determining the winner of the 2008 election.

Who We Are

We are a grassroots group of lawyers and concerned citizens who strongly believe that every American has the right to vote.  We also believe in John Edwards’ message of building an America that lives up to its promise – an America with a moral foreign policy and where every child has an equal opportunity to live the American dream.
